I have to start out this article with an admission that may force me to relinquish my man card. I've never seen True Grit. In fact, I haven't seen very many of John Wayne's movies.

So, while you scream "blasphemy" at your computer screens, allow me to fill you in to the fact that the Coen brothers's next project is a re-make of True Grit. I can hear even more "blasphemys" now.

What I do know about True Grit is that it stars Wayne and an impressive array of future Hollywood heavyweights such as Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper. I also know that it's considered to be one of The Duke's iconic roles, in fact the only role for which he won an Oscar.

So, it takes some pretty big cajones to touch a project like this, and according Variety the Coens are planning a more faithful adaptation of the source material that didn't feature Wayne's Rooster Cogburn quite as much as the original film did.

What do you think of touching John Wayne's iconic role? Are there certain movies that should never be remade?
