'MacGyver' tricks his way to big screen

First, there was a kitschy '80s TV show. Then, there was an SNL spoof. Next, the spoof spawned a Super Bowl commercial.

And now, it should come as no surprise, but the man who could turn a paper clip and a piece of chewing gum into an explosive is hitting the big screen.

Hollywood Reporter is reporting that New Line is putting a big screen adaptation of MacGyver into development. The movie would follow the exploits of the modern-day thinking man's action hero. MacGyver was known for using his wits, rather than his fists to get out of sticky situations.

Over the last year, SNL has parodied the action star with their own run of MacGruber skits that culminated in a cameo from original MacGyver himself, Richard Dean Anderson. The skits recently finished their run with the revelation that MacGruber, played by Will Forte, was really MacGyver's long-lost son.

No word on story or casting at this point, but it's safe to say that fans will demand at least a cameo from Anderson, especially after getting back into the role with the SNL skits.

What do you think of this potential project?
