TIME magazine, in its infinite wisdom, has selected their top 10 DVDs of the year. Just like any pompous critic worth his or her salt, author Richard Corliss selects some bizarre films you've probably never heard of. Others are probably worth your attention (or last minute gift-giving?).

While he doesn't disclose his criteria, it is obvious from his capsulated reviews of each that bonus features weigh heavily. Without further ado, here are the Top 10 DVDs as selected by TIME:

  1. Live Free or Die Hard Unrated Edition
  2. Berlin Alexanderplatz Criterion Collection
  3. Hairspray
  4. Ingmar Bergman: Four Masterworks Criterion Collection
  5. Treasures III: Social Issues in American Film, 1900-1934
  6. Battleship Potemkin Kino Restored
  7. Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 5
  8. Stanley Kubrick: Warner Home Video Directors Series
  9. Paul Robeson: Portraits of the Artist Criterion Collection
  10. Ford at Fox (Anthology of John Ford's work for Darryl Zanuck at Fox)

TIME's web site has 49 other Best-Of lists for the year including Movies (two from different critics), Magazine Covers, Web Sites (all 10 I'd never heard of and I pride myself on being web savvy), Video Games, Gadgets, Viral Videos, and the always popular Awkward Moments.
