You can have your Indiana Jones and Batman movies. The 2008 movie I'm most anticipating is Iron Man.

Yeah, I grew up a huge Marvel Comics fan. I read the Avengers comics when Iron Man was part of the group but I never really got into that character. The real reason I'm excited for Iron Man is its director, Jon Favreau.

I've liked him as an actor since Rudy and PCU. He's really come along nicely as a director. Zathura was very artfully done and 2003's Elf is already a modern Christmas classic. And let us forget the beauty that is Swingers. (Favs wrote the screenplay and produced in addition to starring.)

Plus there's the gutsy casting of Robert Downey Jr. as the man in the metal, Tony Stark. I can't wait to see how the actor uses the addiction demons he's known from his own past for Stark, a man who eventually falls victim to alcoholism.

Anyhoo, enough of that. Paramount has graciously furnished us with some new hi-res photos from the movie opening May 2. A few have shown up before in other publications; others I've never seen before. Click on each pic to see a bigger version.

Iron Man co-stars Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jeff Bridges.
