The Star Wars saga is the highest grossing theatrical series of movies, so it should come as no surprise that Lucas and company are considering a theatrical jump-start to their new animated series.

This morning, the Hasbro company may have let the cat out of the bag when they disclosed at an analysts meeting that Lucasfilm is planning to debut the animated Clone Wars TV show in theaters on August 8, 2008 to be followed by a regular TV season during the Fall of 2008.

When asked to comment on this revelation, a spokesman for Lucasfilm chose his words wisely for TheForce.net. "I'd like to clarify Hasbro comments this AM about the Clone Wars TV series. We see it as a breakthrough animated television series and are exploring a number of innovative ways to introduce it to the public. No decisions regarding release strategy have been made yet."

When asked specifically about a theatrical debut by TheForce.net, the spokesman confirmed that it was one of many unique release strategies being considered.

So, to review, Lucasfilm may or may not debut their Animated Clone Wars TV series in theaters on August 8th or at all. Considering the staggering box office phenomenon that is Star Wars, seems like a no-brainer to me.
