It's been a few weeks since my last round-up of movies and TV shows just announced on DVD. I guess I've been sulking about not going to Comic-Con. Lots of cool stuff has been announced since my self-imposed hiatus so let's get right to it.

As always, click on any of the titles below to sign up for a free reminder email on the day it is released.

Surf's Up - Had enough of penguins yet? This surfing penguin animated flick comes to DVD on Oct. 9. This release is just one disc (either full-screen or widescreen) so there probably won't be too many extras included. Early adopters will be able to get it on Blu-Ray Disc also.

Hostel Part II - Eli Roth is one messed-up dude. The writer and director is back his his sequel to ultra violent horror flick Hostel. This single-disc DVD arrives Oct. 23. It'll be available on Blu-Ray as well.

Reign Over Me - Most people missed this Mike Binder-written and directed drama starring Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle. That includes me. I do plan to visit it when it's available on DVD starring Oct. 9. Again, this is a single-disc release so don't expect too many bonus features. A Blu-Ray version of the movie will also be available.

My So-Called Life - This short-lived ABC teen drama from the early '90s launched the careers of Claire Danes and Jared Leto. It was available on DVD previously but has been out-of-print from some time. That is, until Oct. 30 when it returns to DVD. The cult classic this time comes with a book.

Twilight Zone: The Movie - Can you believe this movie from 1983 has never been released on DVD? That all changes on Oct. 9 when it finally arrives -- and in a big way with releases on DVD, Blu-Ray, and HD-DVD. The movie is a collection of four spooky short films directed by Steven Spielberg, John Landis, George Miller, and Joe Dante. The opening sequence with Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks always scared the bajeezus out of me as a kid.

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Seventh Season - This WB/CW network drama came to a close this year. But we're not sorry because Lorelai and Rory live on thanks to this six-disc set coming to DVD on Nov. 13. There will also be an enormous, 42-disc (wow!) complete series available on the same day.

Scrubs: Season Six - Zach Braff and company return for the sixth season of this NBC sitcom in DVD form on the day before Halloween, Oct. 30.

The Jazz Singer - How well do you know movie history? Well, thanks to that one-month-long class I took way back in college, I know this was the first movie to include talking. This relic from 1927 can be had in a three-disc deluxe edition on Oct. 16.
