For Sci-Fi fans, there are few movies more highly regarded than 1982's Blade Runner. There are also few films that carry more controversy.

Ever since it's 1982 debut in theaters fans and director Ridley Scott have seemingly been at odds with releasing studio Warner Bros. and each other over the ending of the film. It seems that every five years or so, there would be a new "definitive" edition that would make some people happy and anger others.

Starring Harrison Ford at the height of his Star Wars and Indiana Jones fame, Blade Runner is one of those enigmatic movies that everyone agrees is great, but perhaps with reservations. To that end, there have been rumblings around the DVD universe of a comprehensive DVD version that would include every version of the movie and a proverbial "Final Cut."

On December 18th, fans everywhere will finally get to see that Final Cut. Warner Bros. announced over the weekend at Comic Con that they will be releasing the final DVD version of the movie in three flavors: The Final Cut Special Edition (2 Discs), Collector's Edition (4 Discs) and Ultimate Collector's Edition (5 discs).

The Special Edition contains the new cut of the movie on one disc and a new, three and a half hour documentary entitled "Dangerous Days: Making of Blade Runner" on disc two.

The Collector's Edition contains those two discs plus the 1982 U.S. Theatrical Version, the 1982 International Version, the 1992 Director's Cut on disc three. Disc four contains what is known as the Enhancement Archive which includes a smattering of featurettes, deleted scenes, promotional spots and interviews.

The Ultimate Collector's Edition contains the four discs of the Collecor's Edition with an additional fifth disc that includes the rare Workprint Edition of the film, an additional commentary and the featurette "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut." The Ultimate Collector's Edition also comes packaged in a "Deckard Briefcase" with additional collectible memorabilia (see picture below).

The Ultimate Collector's Edition is also available in both high definition formats, HD DVD and Blu-Ray. This marks Blade Runner debut on high definition.
