British sci-fi and fantasy magazine SFX has published its list of the best sci-fi films as voted by a poll of 3,000 fans.
The list features a large upset as 2005's Serenity beat out Star Wars for the top spot. SFX magazine editor Dave Bradley said, "Seeing Serenity topple Star Wars as the UK's favorite sci-fi movie is a massive surprise. The [Firefly] TV show may have been cancelled, yet the Serenity universe clearly struck a chord with fans, thanks to its likeable characters, witty dialogue and amazing special effects."
Not only was Serenity the number one but it was also the most recent of the films listed. Forbidden Planet from 1956 was the oldest of the represented movies.
- Serenity (2005)
- Star Wars (1977)
- Blade Runner (1982)
- Planet of the Apes (1968)
- The Matrix (1999)
- Alien (1979)
- Forbidden Planet (1956)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
- The Terminator (1984)
- Back to the Future (1985)
