I'm guessing that the majority of the people who went to see 300 on its opening weekend did not know the movie is based on a comic book. Well, OK, "300" was a graphic novel but, still, you get my point.
Not only is 300 the movie based on the illustrated novel by Frank Miller, it is very faithful to the source material -- just like the adaptation of Miller's Sin City by Robert Rodriguez. Witness these comparisons provided by Warner Bros. of the novel and stills from the movie.
If you're hungry for more, Solace in Cinema has a few more scene comparisons. Furthermore, there is a book about the transition of Sin City to the big screen, an even more loyal interpretation.
