The best of the worst in 2006: the Razzie nominees are announced

They are the anti-Oscars, the RAZZIES. Now in their 27th year, John Wilson and the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation have announced the nominees for the worst in film for 2006.

It turns out 2006 was a banner year for the Razzies. As they indicate on their web site, they "had literally dozens of deserving contenders to choose from." But of course a select few rise to the top (or is it sink to the bottom?) as the worst of the worst.

Little Man and Basic Instinct 2 lead the way with seven nods each. The other Worst Picture nominations went to Bloodrayne, Lady in the Water, and The Wicker Man.

The "winners" will be announced on Saturday, Feb. 24, the night before the Oscars. Each recipient will receive "a gold-spray-painted, golf-ball-sized raspberry atop a mangled super 8 film reel, with an estimated street value of $4.97."

And $4.97 is probably more than most of these films deserve.

See razzies.com for the complete list of this year's nominees.
