Venerable Hollywood actor Jack Palance died in his Montecito California home on Friday. The Oscar winner was 87 years old.

Known for his deep voice, Palance was best known for his work in Westerns, but it was his turn in the comedy City Slickers as the gruff cowboy Curly that many fans will remember. The performance garnered Palance much acclaim and the 1991 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

During his acceptance speech, Jack left one of the most endearing memories in the storied history of the Oscars when at a loss for words, the actor dropped to the stage for a series of one-armed pushups.

Happy trails Jack, you will be missed.
