New Line Cinema is reportedly working on a prequel of Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The film would show the back-story of everyone's favorite killer Freddy Krueger.

The news comes from horror fan site pitofhorror.com via bloody-disgusting.com (great names, aren't they?) and the man behind the claws, Robert Englund. In an interview with Pit, the actor said, "I think it should go the 'CSI' route and be sort of like a docudrama that shows his crimes against the children. Then you cast two of the greatest character actors you can find to play the lawyers that get him off. Then of course it leads up to Freddy being burned alive."

Englund added that John McNaughton of Wild Things fame is in talks to direct. No word on a start date, let alone a release date.
