Peter Jackson to exec produce 'Halo' movie

Newly svelte producer/director Peter Jackson and wife Fran Walsh will serve as executive producers for the movie adaptation of the popular Xbox video game Halo. Jackson's Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop Ltd. will be handling the special effects for the assuredly FX-heavy piece.

This announcement will surely propel internet rumors that Jackson is directing the film although he's only connected as a producer for now. The news also adds instant credibility to the project -- much more than when disastrous director Uwe Boll (Alone in the Dark) was rumored to be involved.

Jackson's King Kong is set for release on Dec. 14. Halo is anticipated for a Summer 2007 release in theaters.
