Kumar goes to Metropolis

Kumar is leaving his stoner bud Harold behind and setting his sights on the glitz and glamour of Metropolis. Kal Penn has been added to the cast of Superman Returns.

Best known for playing the hapless foreign sidekick in movies such as Van Wilder and Malibu's Most Wanted, Kal is set to play the role of "Superman's best friend." With Sam Huntington already cast as Jimmy Olsen and James Marsden set to play Richard White, it's not immediately clear whether Penn would be a confidante of the Man of Steel himself or of his alter-ego Clark Kent.

Superman Returns is being directed by Bryan Singer for a Summer 2006 release.

UPDATE: Kal's publicist confirmed that he will be in the movie, but not as "Superman's best friend." Instead, he will play the role of Riley, a henchman for Lex Luthor.
