Movie news and rumor site ComingSoon.net is reporting that producers Ronald Shusett and Daniel Alter have approached developer Bungie about adapting their tremendously successful game Halo to the big screen.

Before you pass this off as another in a long line of speculation about an inevitable Halo movie, consider this: Shusett is best known as the producer of Alien franchise. The report also indicates that the producers have spoken to Ridley Scott about directing the project.

Yes, Ridley Scott. The much underrated director who brought to life Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down. Also consider the report that Bungie will only license the property if Scott and Shusett are attached.

You might recall that Halo 2 brought in a record $125 million on its first day of sales on Nov. 9. Revenue of this type is considered blockbuster status for a film -- for its entire theatrical run. Surely this will provide the insurance that producers and investors need to get the necessary license from Bungie. And, Bungie will be able to rest with their mind at ease knowing that their beloved project is in the steady hands of Ridley Scott.

Let the casting rumors for the Master Chief begin.
