You know a DVD's release is big when just the unveiling of the packaging gets people's attention. That's what happened Monday when StarWars.com released the first images of the original Star Wars Trilogy DVD cover art to the general public.

The four-disc sets -- either the platinum, widescreen version or the gold, full-screen version -- will be released on Sept. 21. The embossed outer sleeves will house the separate packaging for each of the four discs: one for each of the movies and one for the disc of extras. Each of the volumes will presumably be housed in standard, plastic DVD packaging. Artwork for the individual volumes was not yet made available.

We can only hope and imagine that a similar set for the prequel trilogy will be made available in late 2005 or early 2006. Of course, Episodes I and II are already available on DVD.
