While last night's Golden Globes ceremony finally brought well earned hardware for The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, it also set up a colossal David vs. Goliath showdown for the Academy Awards next month.

The massive studio blockbuster Return Of The King took home four wins including Best Picture - Drama and Best Director for Peter Jackson. But it was a small talkative film that may have scored the biggest victory of the evening. Lost In Translation won three awards, all biggies: Best Picture - Comedy, Best Actor - Comedy or Musical - Bill Murray and Best Screenplay - Sofia Coppola.

When the Oscar nominations are announced tomorrow morning, we will have a better idea of the pending clash between big movie and small indie, but since the Academy Awards does not break apart movies based on genre, it's a pretty good bet that these two pictures will battle in many categories.

Other winners included: Best Actress, Drama - Charlize Theron, Monster Best Actor, Drama - Sean Penn, Mystic River Best Actress, Musical or Comedy - Diane Keaton, Something's Gotta Give Best Supporting Actress - Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain Best Supporting Actor - Tim Robbins, Mystic River
