It looks like the latest Marvel superhero to hit the big screen will be Captain America. And it looks like all-American boy Brad Pitt will star as the man dressed in red, white and blue. Or does it?

According to the World Entertainment News Network (WENN), shooting for the film is expected to start next year. But the premier site for comic-to-movie news, Superhero Hype, says it's all a lie.

No studio is mentioned as the backer for the project which leads one to disbelief. But who could blame them? Other films adapted from Marvel Comics (Spider-Man, X-Men amd its sequel, The Hulk, Daredevil, and Blade included) have already raked in big bucks in theaters and on DVD. A number of other Marvel-originated projects are also in the works: Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Iron Fist, Elektra, and The Punisher are in the pipeline.

Pitt reportedly said, "I wanted to make an all-out family movie -- something that all ages can go to. And as a child it was my favorite comic."

Who knows? WENN often reports outlandish and sometimes untrue stories. But then again, the casting makes sense and a superhero with a patriotic theme would certainly make a killing. As soon as the official word comes, we'll let you know.
