John "Silk" Lennox (Lon Chaney Jr.) rules the underworld from behind the cover of the Arabian Club, a decadent nightspot where patrons come to revel and rub elbows with the criminal set. Nicknamed "Silk" for being a smooth operator, Lennox struggles to stay one step ahead of the law and his back-stabbing associates who plan to take over his organized mob kingdom. A $50,000.00 bank heist that Silk cunningly engineered goes wrong when one of the gangsters, The Deacon, double crosses him and makes off with the loot. After Silk kills The Deacon in swift retribution, he becomes a target of both the police and his own men, who now view the mob boss with suspicion and contempt. As the law closes in, and his allies turn against him, Lennox scrambles furiously to regain control of his crime empire and escape the electric chair.

Lon Chaney Jr. was born Creighton Chaney in 1906. Pressed by a producer, he begrudgingly changed his name to "Lon Chaney Jr." to cash in on the fame of his father. In the early 30s, Chaney appeared in several B-pictures such as The Shadow of Silk Lennox, but was not regarded seriously as an actor until his 1939 role as "Lenny" in Of Mice And Men. In 1941, Chaney starred in The Wolf Man, which established him as a horror movie icon.
