World War II was the world's darkest hour, filled with war's horrors and unimaginable cruelty. Meet the last living heroes of this gruesome battle, and hear their stories-not in the words of generals and historians-but in their own words. The Last Heroes of World War II painstakingly chronicles the final years of the Allied campaign during the Second World War. Using a combination of moving first-person testimony, previously unseen archival footage and battlefield recreations each episode tells the story of an iconic battle and hones in on the personal experiences of front-line personnel. With these veterans now in their senior years, this may be the last chance to hear their stories of incredible strength and courage during the war.
Innovative cinematic techniques put the weapons used in the campaigns back into active service. Filmed using high-speed cameras, every round, mortar, artillery shell, mine and bomb is slowed down and analyed to show the devastating effect on its targets. The overall experience brings the battlefield to life and helps to better understand the real threats soldiers faced on the front line. This gripping series doesn't just vividly portray the iconic battles of World War II, it tells an epic story-on an epic scale.
