Produced in Europe for American audiences, the "Sherlock Holmes" 1954 TV series captures the essence of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's characters and themes. Ronald Howard (son of film star Leslie Howard) stars as the intensely analytical Holmes, aided by Dr. Watson (H. Marion Crawford) and antagonized by the Inspector Lestrade (Archie Duncan).

Case Of The French Interpreter: A ruthless criminal gang holding a foreigner captive coerces interpreter Claude Dubec to translate their prisoner's responses during a violent interrogation. Dubec enlists the aid of Holmes and Watson to find the imprisoned man before his captors can murder him.

Case Of The Keystone Inscription: Millicent Channing's fiancee, a research worker on the verge of a great discovery, has suddenly disappeared, and she turns to Holmes and Watson to find him. Their investigation leads them to the sinister Greystone mansion, filled with secret passageways and treasure.

The Red Headed League: An unusual newspaper ad by a strange club for men with red hair lures Mr. Wilson to interview for a job opening. After he accepts the position, the group mysteriously disappears and its offices are found empty. Wilson comes to Holmes and Watson, who uncover a much bigger, danger-filled scheme.

Case Of The Winthrop Legend: When Harvey Winthrop's elder brother John receives death threats, Holmes and Watson learn of the family's ancestral curse. Legend has it that the Winthrops will meet violent deaths preceded by the arrival of silver coins and, ultimately, a gold coin at the brutal end. The Winthrops reopen their eerie mansion in defiance of the threats, with Watson and Holmes joining them.
