- Paul graduated from the University of Kansas with honors. He earned the Spencer Tracy Scholarship and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts/West Los Angeles.
- Paul had his turn at television guest spots before making his move to the big screen in 1994.

- Paul was chosen to participate in a three-month intensive workshop at the British Drama Academy at Oxford University.
